On December 1st 1919, theatre tycoon and self-made millionaire Ambrose Small sold all of his theatres at a profit of 1.7 million. The next day, he disappeared and his body was never recovered. The mystery surrounding the true-story disappearance of Ambrose Small is explored as audiences go behind the curtains of one of his former properties: the Grand Theatre.
The Single Thread Theatre Company uses non-traditional spaces to explore history and culture in a provocative way. Originally founded in Kingston, and having produced site-specific theatre for Toronto landmarks such as the Art Gallery of Ontario, Fort York, the Toronto First Post Office, the Campbell House Museum and Spadina Historic House and Gardens, Single Thread engages and inspires audiences with themes of universal significance. Single Thread was named last year's 'Best Site Specific Theatre Company in Toronto' by NOW Magazine (2014)
Ambrose is designed to be an immersive theatre experience in and around the Grand Theatre lasting approximately 50 minutes with no intermission. Patrons as asked to dress appropriately, including comfortable shoes, as they will be asked to stand, walk, climb stairs and navigate doorways—often in low light—during the performance.
Doors open at 7:00 pm with the performance starting at 7:30 pm. Entry will be available via entry to the Baby Grand Studio Theatre on Princess street.
The Grand Theatre is not responsible for personal items brought to the show and recording of any kind (photography, video, sound) is strictly prohibited.
Please note, this performance is not accessible to patrons with mobility issues or visual impairment. All other productions being presented as part of The Kick & Push Festival are fully accessible.
