The music departments of Regiopolis-Notre Dame and Holy Cross Catholic High Schools of the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board will be performing a joint concert at Kingstons Grand Theatre on Wednesday March 26 at 7:00 p.m. The concert is sponsored by Investor's Group and McCoy Bus Service. The bands will be the first high school groups to perform in the renovated Grand and experience its outstanding acoustics. Both the RND and HC music programs have enjoyed continued success and great accomplishments in recent years and their senior ensembles rank among the best in the province. At the local Kiwanis Festival both schools have shared first and second place in the highest competitive band class for many years with Holy Cross winning the lions share.

Both bands have commissioned new works for concert band and performed world premieres by local Canadian composers.

The RND Senior Concert Band and the Holy Cross Symphonic Band have represented their schools, school board and Kingston community by performing at major festivals in the United States in cities such as New York, Boston, Washington and Orlando to name a few. At these festivals they have performed with distinction, been praised by adjudicators and won many awards and trophies.

In 2012 the RND Senior Band performed at Orchestra Hall in Chicago in the Festival of Gold, and last year they were honoured to play at the National Band and Orchestra Festival at Carnegie Hall in New York City. In a contrasting concert they were once featured performers at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland where they entertained playing band arrangements of classic rock favourites.

Highlights of the Holy Cross Bands performance history include performances in public schools in Harlem, NY in 2007, a performance at the United Nations in New York in 2005, a performance in Downtown Disney in Orlando, Florida in 2006 and two performances at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, DC in 2004 and again in 2008.

The bands are excited to play at their local concert hall and home of the Kingston Symphony. At the Grand Theatre performance the bands will each perform a short program separately and then come together at the end of the night for a joint performance of Amazing Grace, brilliantly arranged by Frank Ticheli. Special guest performers for the evening will be the Holy Cross Vocal Ensemble.

Performing in the Regina Rosen Auditorium of the Grand Theatre.

Tickets are $10.00 each, plus handling fee.
