The Conservatory invites the entire Kingston region to our annual gala performance, Illuminatum, featuring the collective works of our dance community (ages three through adult), as they showcase their growth and artistry. Inspired by the concept of “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts,” Illuminatum is a celebration of diversity, collaboration, synergy, transformation and emergence. Symbolized in the motif of the rainbow, Illuminatum reminds us that through the combination of light and water, we find moments of brilliant colour, beauty and inspiration -- wonders far beyond simple elements -- and that light and rain also fuel the growth of our earth and all life upon it. Act I features the glorious colour, culture, music and movement of diverse dance genres such as musical theatre, tap, contemporary dance, bellydance, flamenco, Spanish classical and Latin dance. Act II features a fresh retelling of Le Jardin Animé from the ballet Le Corsaire, as our dancers illustrate how we can appreciate the music and choreography of iconic repertoire, while using our creativity to reimagine narratives, honour cultural growth and illuminate the beauty and power of an inclusive collective. Join us at the gentle glow of Daybreak in our enchanted garden; enveloped in the light of Lavender Dawn. After the spectacular lightning and rain of a Cloudburst, the storm softens to a gentle Spring Rain, bringing sweet flowers In Bloom, whimsical Hummingbirds and lyrical Butterflies. After the Rain, amidst Parting Clouds we glimpse the emergence of the rare and mystical Moonbows. As the sun sets, we bask in the magnificence of Golden Hour, where hope and possibility shimmer on the horizon, like treasure at The End of the Rainbow. Illuminatum is a performance accessible to, and suitable for, all ages; we hope you will join us for a moving and magical afternoon!
